I pushed open the door to Hunter’s office and said bluntly,
“Let’s get divorced.”
When he saw me, he froze for a split second.
Then a mocking smile spread across his face.
“Divorce, again? Did you forget how humiliating you looked this morning?
I walked up to his desk, planted both hands on the edge, and looked down at him.
“Don’t think I don’t know you told them on purpose.”
Hunter’s eyes flickered. He cleared his throat awkwardly and avoided my gaze.
“Divorce is a serious matter. Of course it needs the family’s approval.”
“Besides, Penny, do we really need to push things this far? Isn’t the way things are now… fine?”
“We live our own lives, stay out of each other’s way. If you want, you can even find someone on the side-”
“Hunter,” I cut him off, my voice low but glacial.
“I don’t have the time or patience to play these games with you. Listen carefully.”
I leaned in, enunciating every word.
This divorce is happening today. If you try to stall again, or pull any tricks…”
“I will package every single intimate photo of you and Luna–along with you and anyone else–and send them to every
employee at your company. From janitorial staff to senior executives. No one left out.”
“I don’t care about the consequences. Worst case? Invasion of privacy. I pay a fine. I can afford it.”
“But have you thought about this? When your entire company, along with your partners and competitors, is all eagerly
gossiping over CEO Blackwell’s scandal…”
“What happens to your reputation? Your company’s stock price? The image you spent years building?
Hunter’s face darkened. He stared at me, eyes burning,

After a long pause, he ground out through clenched teeth,
“Penny… you disgust me.”
“I never thought you’d sink this low.”
“Fine. Divorce it is. Right now.”
“Works perfectly for me.”
This time, there were no obstacles.
The moment the divorce decree hit my palm, my vision blurred.
Scalding tears spilled over, dropping heavily onto the certificate.
Seeing this, Hunter let out a scoff.
“What? Regretting it now?”
“What, you regret it now? If you change your mind, tear it up. I could still-”
“No.”
I wiped my tears hard and shook my head.
“I’m happy.”
I clutched the divorce decree tightly, as if it were the most precious thing I’d ever owned.
“I’m finally… free.”
It really was wonderful.
