Ethan clutched his collar, struggling for breath.
Her words from that day wouldn’t stop echoing in his ears.
“You can’t risk my mom’s life! If my mom dies, I will never forgive you!”
Only now did it truly hit Ethan: the sheer desperation and helplessness in her voice back then.
So, her mother really did die that day. That’s why she’d ripped herself away from him so completely, o absolutely!
She’d gone to Avalon, a country he could never even touch. The truth? She never wanted to see him again, ever
This realization, like a sharpened blade, ripped through Ethan’s very last shred of hope.
He choked. A torrent of crimson erupted from his lips, splattering the expensive carpet. The sight alone was
sickening.
Servants scrambled to his side, their hands fumbling as they tried to help him up.
Ethan’s strength completely deserted him. He crumpled onto the sofa, a suffocating despair threatening to swallow him whole.
He’d planned everything perfectly. How had it all gone so sideways?
He called his assistant again, his voice raw with exhaustion, raspy and cutting. “Go find out what the hell happened”
He hung up. A suffocating ache still gripped Ethan’s chest. What good would finding out do? It wouldn’t bring his mother back from the dead.
He clutched his face, tears streaming through his fingers.
Twenty years. This was the first time he felt so utterly out of control, it was driving him insane.
Kicked out of the Carter mansion, Chloe retreated to her own villa. Ethan had bought it for her. Sure, it was worth millions, but it still couldn’t hold a candle to the Carters’ obscene wealth and luxury.
A hollowness gnawed at Chloe. It lingered until she saw the trending news about my disappearance. My name erased from all records. I was really gone, right?
Chloe hit up everyone she knew, digging for info. It wasn’t until Mrs. Carter Sr. wired her a cool billion dollars that Chloe finally knew for sure: I was completely gone.
She knew she should just grab the money and disappear, fast. But a part of her still couldn’t let go.
Since I was out of the picture, the title of Mrs. Carter… wouldn’t that finally be hers for the taking?
That thought burned in Chloe’s mind. She got herself dolled up and headed straight for the Carter mansion.
Meanwhile.
Secretary Mike placed a USB drive in front of Ethan.
“Mrs. Carter’s mother’s death? Ms. Davis is involved. And every ‘mistake’ Mrs. Carter made these past two weeks’ Ms. Davis deliberately set her up for every single one. Here, see for yourself.”
The words hit hard. Ethan’s face instantly darkened.
He was just about to open the USB when Chloe burst in.

I
Mr. Carter, is Mrs. Carter trying to force me out with this whole ‘cutting tres drama? She sabeulurely ridiculous Even if she’s jealous of me, how can she take it out on you”
Chloe glanced up at Ethan. A triumphant glint flashed in her eyes when she saw his grim face Without missing a beat, she subtly continued to stir the pot.
“Seriously, what’s wrong with Mrs. Carter’ She just vanishes at the slightest argument. That’s such a blatant disrespect to you, isn’t it?”
Ethan wasn’t even listening. His eyes were glued to the screen, frantically scanning through the videos
Every single move I’d made over the past two weeks was painstakingly pieced together from countless surveillance clips.
I never would’ve stooped to bullying Chloe. Instead, she was always the one provoking me, always setting me up.
And the car crash? Her ‘punctured lung’ claim? It was all a damn lie!
She purposely stole my mom’s ventilator, then bribed the doctors to let her die!
Chloe just stood there, watching Ethan’s face grow darker and darker, until it was practically black. She couldn’t help but flinch, her gut screaming at her to get the hell out.
But just as she reached the door, Secretary Mike slammed it shut.
His voice cut like a knife as Ethan snapped his head up.”Did I say you could leave?”
His gaze was colder than ice, sharper than any blade. Chloe’s legs went weak beneath her, but she still tried to play it cute, forcing a simper.
“Fine, fine, I’ll stay then. Don’t be so rough, you’re scaring me.”
Ethan’s face was blank. He crooked a finger. “Come here.”
A weird knot twisted in Chloe’s gut. But refusing him wasn’t an option. She forced herself to walk over, adding a flirtatious sway to her hips.
She reached him. The moment she leaned in to settle onto his lap, just like she always did, a brutal slap exploded across her face, sending her sprawling to the floor.
Ethan’s gaze was dead, like he was looking at a corpse. “Have I been too damn nice to you?” he snarled. “How the hell did you dare provoke and frame my wife? And murder my mother-in-law?”
Chloe clapped a hand to her throbbing, rapidly swelling face. She crawled, whimpering, to his feet.
“No, no, it wasn’t me! It’s all a huge misunderstanding!” she gasped, tears streaming down her face “Did Mrs. Carter
did she tell you this? She’s just lying! Trying to frame me! Don’t believe a word… Ah!
Before she could even finish, Ethan grabbed a handful of her hair, yanking her head back, then slamming her face
right to the screen. High-def footage. Every vile thing she’d done, playing out.
Chloe’s whole body shook uncontrollably. One thought hammered in her head.
Screwed.
He knew everything.
Chloe’s eyes darted around, her mind racing for an escape. But Ethan had already called for his bodyguards
“Whatever pain my wife endured? She’ll get it back tenfold.”
Before Chloe could even process it, she was already being roughly dragged out.

“Mr. Carter Chloe shrieked, struggling. You can’t do this to me! Framing Mrs. Carter that wasnt my intention
Ethan turned away, eyes shut. He didn’t want to hear another word of her excuses
Just then, Chloe shrieked at the top of her lungs:
“It was Mrs. Carter Sr.! Her! She hired me to ruin your marriage”
Ethan’s eyes snapped open. He spun around, incredulous.
She rejected her toxic mate to reign with a true Alpha.
