A Horizon Made Of Dust by Kairo Thren 2

A Horizon Made Of Dust by Kairo Thren 2

Chapter

After drinking the magical potion,

I stood there quietly for a moment, feeling for any changes in my body.

Hmm.

Nothing felt different.

Thinking back to how the potion had worked on Hunter in my previous life, I didn’t doubt its authenticity.

Maybe some changes were never meant to be visible to the naked eye.

As I was lost in thought, my stomach suddenly growled.

Right–since my rebirth, I hadn’t eaten a single thing.

I stepped out of the bedroom. Under the warm lights of the living room, a full table of elaborate dishes came into view.

I froze for a moment… then it all came back to me. The moment I’d been reborn happened to be the sixth anniversary

of my marriage to Hunter.

How had I spent this day in my last life?

I’d dressed up carefully and gone straight to Hunter’s company.

In front of everyone, I’d begged him to come home for dinner that night.

When I walked out of his office, the looks people gave me were full of mockery and pity.

But at the time, I’d been too happy that Hunter had agreed to care about anything else.

After returning home, I’d cooked an entire table of dishes–all of them were his favorites.

beef stew with root vegetables, steamed sea bass with herbs, lightly sautéed seasonal vegetables, garlic butter steamed

clams with pasta…

I had poured all my effort into this meal, hoping to win Hunter over through his stomach. Looking at the spread. I’d

even felt a flicker of accomplishment, imagining the appreciation–or even emotion–in his eyes when he walked

through the door.

And the result?

I’d sat alone on a cold chair all night.

Hunter spent the evening with his mistress.

That was his idea of a gift for our sixth anniversary.

That long, crushing night finally drove me to the potion, because I could no longer endure waiting alone.

Now that I thought about it…

Why would I feel lonely? Didn’t I still have myself?

Now, staring at the same table of food, my feelings were completely different.

No longing. No anxiety.

Just the purest, simplest need; I was hungry.
