Chapter 6

When Madison woke up, she found herself tied up in a warehouse.

The man standing angrily in front of her was the same one who had pushed Chloe into the lake.

“You incompetent morons!” he roared at the men flanking him. “I said bring me Chloe Grant! How the hell did you grab this plain Jane instead?!”

The bodyguards looked uneasy. “But we heard it directly from Ethan Quinn’s friends! They said Chloe Grant was going to the airport, so we staked out the airport and grabbed the wrong person…”

The last trace of color drained from Madison’s face. She hadn’t told anyone, not even her roommate, about her plans to return to Southport today. She had only messaged Ethan. So… did Ethan intentionally mislead these people, making them mistake her for Chloe?

This thought sent a chill like ice water through Madison’s heart. The man roughly yanked her, chair and all, upright. “Word on the street is, Ethan Quinn recently made the sons of the Stone and Grant families kneel and apologize to you at Northwood.”

He sneered, almost as if talking to himself. “If he’d go that far for you, does that mean you’re somewhat important to him?”

Madison’s eyes widened in shock. Before she could utter a word, the man shoved her violently to

the floor.

The man looked down at her coldly. “My sister killed herself over Ethan Quinn. Since I can’t kill the woman he loves for revenge, I’ll take it out on you for now! You lot,” he turned to his bodyguards and ordered coldly, “Beat her. Hard.”

A storm of fists rained down. Madison curled into a ball, desperately protecting her head with her arms, but the pain assaulted her from all sides.

It hurt…So much pain…Having grown up pampered by her parents and brother, she had never experienced such pain before…She gritted her teeth, tears streaming down her face.

Ethan…Is this what you

wanted?

On the verge of losing consciousness, in a dazed state, she suddenly heard, “Maddie!”

A heart–wrenching shout. Struggling, she looked up and saw a tall figure silhouetted in the light of the open warehouse doorway.

But before she could make out his face, she completely lost consciousness.
