Chapter 7
I’d installed the surveillance cameras in secret, originally just to record Ramon’s episodes for the doctors‘ reference.
But as it turned out, they captured endless evidence of the housekeeper’s cruelty and sabotage.
I’d been so busy working these past years that I never had time to check the footage.
Now, with some free time, I found she’d been calling Brittany right under my nose.
The housekeeper’s face went ghostly pale. She grabbed the contract, her hands trembling. “I earned that! I’ve taken care of Dr. Riley and this house for so long…”
“You’ve only looked after Ramon–and yourself, haven’t you?”
I cut her off. “Who handled every meal, every detail for the kids? What have you done besides eat and sleep?”
I didn’t waste another word. I told the movers to toss her things out.
Standing in the empty house, I took a deep breath, feeling as if an overwhelming weight had finally lifted from my chest.
Ramon had been with Brittany these past few days, never coming home.

Good. This was the clean break I needed.
I mailed the divorce papers to Ramon’s hospital.
After that, I blocked every possible way he could contact me.
It wasn’t until Brittany was discharged and their celebration party was over that Ramon finally remembered me.
He tried calling, but couldn’t get through, so he called the hospital.
The hospital told him the kids had been discharged safely, and only then did he relax.
Relying on his memory of Gabriella’s favorites, he bought her favorite strawberry cake, picked up a Transformer for Terence, and a cloth doll for Cassidy, even meat bones and pork liver for the pets.
Just like all those days Gabriella had longed for him, only to be met
with indifference.
He was sure Gabriella loved him so much that this would all blow
over soon enough,
But when he opened the front door, he was stunned.
Strangers were standing in the living room, inspecting the space.
All the furniture and appliances were gone.
Ramon frowned. “Who are you? What are you doing in my house?”
A middle–aged man turned around, holding the deed. “Sir, you must be mistaken. This house has been sold to us. We’re here for the

handover.”
“That’s impossible!
“This is my house–I never sold it!”
“The name on the deed has already been changed.”
The man waved the document. “The previous owner was Gabriella Lambert. She said she divorced you, so she sold the house.”
Divorced…
Ramon staggered back, frantically dialing Gabriella’s number.
No matter how many times he tried, he couldn’t reach her.
Just then, Brittany messaged, “Ray, the hospital wants us to do a couples promo shoot. Hurry over!”
Ramon had no interest in photos, but as he started to refuse, Brittany added, “There’s a package here for you–it looks like it’s from Gabriella.”
At the mention of my package, Ramon rushed to the hospital.
The photo crew was already set up.
He let them fuss over his hair and makeup, but his mind was fixed on my package.
When he finally opened it and saw the documents inside, he was completely floored.

Divorce papers! Those people were telling the truth–Gabriella was divorcing him!
The agreement spelled everything out. Gabriella would have full custody of the children, all property and vehicles had been sold, the proceeds set aside for their care and medical bills. She relinquished all joint assets and required only his signature.
No tears, no accusations, not a single extra word.
Just like she’d endured everything in silence for years–even her goodbye was dignified, almost cold.
It felt as if an invisible hand was squeezing Ramon’s heart, the weight of it suffocating.
