Ethan’s face was purple with rage. Noah drawled, slow and easy, “Broke your leg this time? Consider it a lesson Next time you even think about touching my wife, I’m sending you straight to hell”
His voice dropped, his eyes turning razor-sharp and cold as ice.
Ethan ignored him, his eyes locked on me.
“What’s he to you? Don’t forget, we’re still married!”
“Ethan, I already canceled my residency and ID back in the States. That means our marriage’s officially over.”
“I don’t accept that!” Ethan roared.
Before I could get a word in, Noah gave him a cold, mocking stare.”Your admission means nothing,” he scoffed. The law already does.”
“Luna! Even if you hate my guts, you can’t seriously be with my arch-rival just to get back at me! He’s nothing but trouble!”
Noah’s face went from smug to stone in an instant. He started to lunge forward, but I clamped a hand on his arm.
“Don’t bother with him,” I urged.”Let’s go.”
Noah shot Ethan a smug, triumphant look, then peeled out with me.
The exhaust kicked up a cloud of dust.
Dust stung Ethan’s eyes, burning so fiercely he couldn’t stop the tears.
He watched us go, his gaze burning holes in our retreating car. His fists were clenched so tight his palms bled.
Inside the car.
Noah cranked the heater, and the car quickly filled with warmth.
“Luna, don’t be scared,” Noah said, his voice dropping to a comforting tone.”I swear, that psycho won’t ever lay a hand on you again.”
I just managed a soft nod, collapsing back against the seat. Utterly drained.
Honestly, deep down, seeing Ethan again had shaken me more than I’d let on.
A year had passed, and I’d buried the pain deep, but I could never forget. The day Mom died, the agony, the sheer despair it was seared into my soul.
Noah saw my eyelashes tremble, and a sharp pain ripped through him.
Damn Ethan.
I might claim I’d moved on, that the hate was gone, but Noah wasn’t about to let Ethan slide. Not a chance.
While stopped at a red light, Noah grabbed his phone and fired off a text.
[Cause some serious hell for the Carter family. I want Ethan buried for the next three to five years. No comeback, no mercy.]
Autumn weather was always unpredictable.
Morning brought sunshine and warmth, but by afternoon, dark clouds hung low, pressing down.
I stood by the window, gazing at the heavy, dark sky. A storm was brewing, I could feel it in my bones.

By evening, the heavens opened. A torrential downpour started, growing heavier by the minute.
Fat raindrops hammered against the glass, only fueling the strange anxiety churning in my gut
The wind howled, forcing the window open.
I moved to close the window, and out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of a figure kneeling in the rain
It was Ethan!
His shattered leg was gushing blood, the puddle beneath him already a sickening crimson, yet he remained kneeling, ramrod straight.
The moment he saw me, he choked out, “Luna…”
But the next second, the window slammed shut!
I yanked the curtains shut, not even letting him catch a glimpse of my back.
Ethan’s heart felt like it had a gaping hole torn through it, cold wind blasting through his chest.
His rigid back suddenly sagged, and he crumpled into a heap, burying his face in his hands as he wept.
Before, I’d loved him so fiercely, my gaze always clinging to him, desperate to be glued to his side.
But now, I couldn’t even bring myself to look at him.
Ethan was drowning in regret. Bringing Chloe into their lives had been his biggest mistake.
He lifted a hand, brushing wet hair off his face. Suddenly, a sound ripped from inside the villa, hitting him like a lightning bolt.
Those intimate sounds… Noah. And me.
The moment he realized what we were doing, Ethan completely lost it. He dragged his broken leg, stumbling towards the door, and pounded on it with frantic blows.
“Luna! You can’t-!”
“Even if you’re trying to get back at me, you can’t destroy yourself like this! Please, don’t-!”
A creak! The second-story window opened!
Noah leaned out, a cocky grin plastered on his face.”Who the hell is barking like a stray dog in the middle of the night? Go freak out somewhere else. Don’t interrupt me and my wife getting it on.”
His voice was hoarse with lust, but what really twisted the knife was his bare chest, covered in scratch marks.
Ethan’s heart felt like a monstrous hand was crushing it, the agony stealing his breath.
And this was only the beginning.
The intimate sounds from inside the villa escalated rapidly. The woman’s moans and the man’s grunts tangled together, each a cold, venomous bite gnawing at Ethan’s heart.
His eardrums screamed in pain, but he stood frozen, a glutton for punishment, listening to their lovemaking from inside.
Suddenly, it hit him: he used to bring Chloe home and shamelessly make love right in front of me.
He couldn’t even imagine the agony I must have felt back then.
Ethan tore at his hair like a madman, letting out low, guttural moans.
