That night, Oliver came home.

Reeking of alcohol, he staggered over and pulled her into his arms.

“Gerrie, how did things end up like this?

“I can’t understand it. How did we become this way? You used to be so kind.”

Geraldine’s heart sank, and she pushed him away numbly.

She knew him too well. When he didn’t know how to face her, he drank before coming home.

Every time in the past, whenever he upset her, it was the same routine -alcohol for courage, then a guilty apology, whispering, “Honey, I was wrong.”

Back then, she found it endearing. She always softened and forgave him.

But now, he had another woman and another child. He hadn’t even visited her once during the five days she lay in the hospital, and he still thought this trick would work.

“It’s useless, Oliver.”

Geraldine stood up and walked toward the door.

They used to be inseparable, unable to bear even a moment apart.

Now, she couldn’t even stay in the same room with him.

But just as she reached the door, he grabbed her again, holding her tightly.

“Gerrie, are you unhappy?”

His hands wandered restlessly. He slipped them under her clothes and pressed warm kisses against her neck.

The next second, Geraldine caught his wrist.

She closed her eyes in pain.

“Oliver. Let’s get a divorce.”

His movements slowed, as if the alcohol haze was lifting.

He hugged her tighter and shook his head.

“No. Gerrie, I won’t divorce you.”

His voice broke, repeating the words over and over.

Geraldine was about to speak when she felt dampness spreading on her shoulder.

She thought, “Is… Oliver crying?”

She froze, caught off guard.

Then clarity returned.

Wasn’t this how he always fooled her in the past?

Otherwise, how could she have been kept in the dark for so long?

Geraldine gave a bitter smile and tried to pull free.

When she couldn’t, she relaxed her body and said calmly, “Fine. No

divorce.”

As expected, Oliver loosened his grip a little.

She soothed him, helped him lie down, and waited until he fell asleep before quietly getting up.

She looked at him sleeping beside her. His handsome face looked even more striking in the moonlight.

Once, she had admired him countless times, imagining their future happiness.

Now, there was only disappointment.

Just then, her phone lit up. She glanced at it. It was a message from

Shanice.

“Come to Oliver’s office at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.”

She turned off the screen, left the bedroom, and slept in the guest

room.

The next morning, Oliver was already gone.

Breakfast still sat warm on the table. Beside it was a sticky note, “Honey, remember to eat breakfast. Don’t be mad.”

She glanced at it once and tossed it into the trash.

After eating a little, she went straight to the Houghton Group.

But when she reached Oliver’s office, what she saw through the slightly open door stopped her cold, and her body went numb.

Inside, Shanice was bent over the desk, with Oliver behind her.

The deliberately lowered, intimate sounds mixed with his heavy breathing, slipping through the crack in the door and into Geraldine’s

ears.

Between breaths, Shanice laughed softly. “Aren’t you afraid someone will find out and tell Geraldine?”

Oliver was already lost in it, his voice low and hoarse. “Don’t mention other women when we’re doing this.

“Even if it really gets exposed, I won’t shortchange you or the child.”

As if punishing her, he moved harder, cutting off her voice.

But Shanice was smiling. Her eyes flicked toward the door, triumph flashing in them.

Outside, Geraldine staggered, nearly falling.

Her husband, the man she loved most, was inside his office having sex with another woman.

Suddenly, nausea surged up, and she couldn’t hold it back. She rushed to the restroom and vomited until there was nothing left.

When she came out and was about to leave, she heard Shanice laughing.

Turning her head, she saw Shanice leaning against the doorway, smiling brightly.

“So? You saw it, didn’t you?”

“So what?” Geraldine replied calmly. “Has he signed the agreement?”

With a bored flick of her wrist, Shanice handed the divorce agreement to her.

“You know what? I gave it to him, and he signed it right away.

Geraldine, did you ever think that if you had given it to him yourself, would he have refused, or agreed just as easily?”

Her gentle voice carried an unreadable smile. Then she turned and walked away.

Geraldine took a deep breath and opened the agreement. There it was -Oliver’s signature, clear and unmistakable.

She smiled faintly.

Maybe…

Maybe the one who wanted to leave the most had never been her at all,

But it didn’t matter anymore.

She was about to leave.
